Explore Key Areas of Impact

Affordable Housing

The correlation between homeownership and strong, thriving communities is undeniable. More opportunities for affordable housing and an increase in homeownership can lead to enhanced employment access, population diversity, a revitalized local economy and more. Mid Penn Bank strives to see each of its local communities experience these benefits and understands its crucial role in seeing this vision come to fruition. From the ground up, MPB team members are working to get more neighbors into safe and affordable homes.

These initiatives include:

KEEPING CUSTOMERS INFORMED of the latest mortgage and loan programs, such as the PHFA and First Front Door.

CREATING LASTING PARTNERSHIPS with nonprofits like Tri County Housing Development Corporation to provide first time homebuyer programs to our unbanked and underserved neighbors.

SUPPORTING LOW TO MODERATE INCOME HOUSING VENTURES through investments, special financing, and the Pennsylvania Neighborhood Assistance Program (NAP).

VOLUNTEERING FOR ORGANIZATIONS which offer affordable housing options, teach financial literacy courses, and combat homelessness.

Economic Development and Community Revitalization

Mid Penn Bank is committed to strengthening the communities where our customers and employees live, work, and play. Economic progress is rooted at the local level, which is why we actively invest in initiatives that drive meaningful change throughout the Bank’s service regions. By identifying key needs, particularly in underserved areas, we strive to provide resources and support that foster growth and stability.

One way we fulfill this commitment is through the Pennsylvania Neighborhood Assistance Program (NAP). This state-funded program provides tax credits to businesses like Mid Penn Bank who donate funds and invest in projects that positively impact distressed or low-income populations in Pennsylvania neighborhoods. We proudly contribute to efforts that focus on affordable housing, education, job training, food security, and neighborhood revitalization. Through these initiatives, we continue to strengthen the communities we call home.

Education and Workforce Development

Access to a quality education can significantly increase chances for a financially secure future. That is why we invest heavily in local educational programming. Last year, Mid Penn Bank contributed more than $833,000 to educational institutions and curricula through the Pennsylvania Educational Improvement Tax Credit (EITC) program. Recipient organizations use the funds to make critical upgrades to the overall educational experience they provide.

Financial Education

As a community bank, we recognize our role in introducing financial concepts to all age groups and demographics. Providing our neighbors and local students with the proper tools for financial confidence can help transform the future of our local communities.

68 schools sponsored through an online financial literacy platform

258 teachers have used our financial literacy materials in their classrooms

Funding Essential Needs

Over the last year, Mid Penn Bank has committed more than $130,000 to various local organizations assisting the food insecure. Not only do we contribute financially to these programs, but we also lend a hand in the preparation and distribution of food. Helping our neighbors gain access to healthy food on a regular basis is important to us and aids in the overall well-being of our local communities. Throughout 2024, Mid Penn Bank supported several food banks, weekend food programs for school students, and food distribution efforts for local veterans.

Volunteerism

We take pride in making a meaningful difference in the communities we live and work. Our employees are encouraged to participate in bank wide volunteer initiatives as well as causes they are personally passionate about. Over the course of a year, 399 Mid Penn Bank colleagues invested more than 13,700 hours, volunteering for more than 3,300 volunteer activities including:

Packing and organizing food for local food banks

Repairing bicycles

Teaching seminars for various affordable housing organizations

Leading Junior Achievement exercises in classrooms across central Pennsylvania

Coaching youth sports

Serving meals at shelters and so much more!

Together, these efforts create a sustainable impact in neighborhoods across our footprint.

Health and Wellness

While Mid Penn Bank has always supported local health and wellness initiatives, 2024 was a particularly exciting year for two of its major campaigns — The Mid Penn Bank Celebrity Golf Tournament, supporting breast cancer research, and the No Shave November campaign, supporting prostate cancer research. Both have seen unprecedented growth in scale and community support. This progress can be credited to the entire MPB organization, many of whom participate through personal fundraising and awareness efforts.

CELEBRITY GOLF TOURNAMENT

Due to the overwhelming success of the Celebrity Golf Tournament, Mid Penn Bank was able to donate a total of $200,000 to the Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition and the Basser Center for BRCA at Penn Medicine. In conjunction with the golf tournament, Team MPB also hosted the Project Pink volunteer event. There, family and friends lovingly packed care packages for breast cancer patients.

NO SHAVE NOVEMBER

In August of 2022, Mid Penn Bank announced a new goal for its partnership with Penn State Health — to raise $1.1 million over the next four years in the name of men’s health and prostate cancer research through its annual No Shave November Campaign. To mark the occasion, Penn State Health renamed its second-floor outpatient clinic for Mid Penn Bank. Among other benefits, this commitment supports advancements in patient care and diagnosis, and free prostate cancer screenings for local community members. In November of 2024, Mid Penn Bank raised $340,000, putting the Bank on track to meet its four-year goal.
