2021 Juneteenth Writing Contest
Mid Penn Bank recognizes the significance of Juneteenth in African-American history and culture. With this writing contest, we hope to inspire today’s youth to share how Juneteenth resonates with them and to further discussion around civil rights in America. Poetry, short stories and essays are welcome. The work can be fiction or non-fiction but must be original. Contest is open to youth in grades 8-12 during the 2020-2021 school year. Deadline for submissions is May 21, 2021.
Writing Contest Prompt: What does Juneteenth mean to you? Or, tell us about this important historic event with a story or by sharing your own thoughts.
- 1st place: $500 cash prize
- 2nd place: $300 cash prize
- 3rd place: $200 cash prize
- 5 honorable mentions: $100 cash prize, each
Rules: Entries should not exceed 1500 words. Author must reside in one of the following counties that make up Mid Penn Bank’s footprint to win: Berks, Bucks, Chester, Cumberland, Dauphin, Fayette, Lancaster, Luzerne, Montgomery, Northumberland, Schuylkill, Westmoreland. Employees of Mid Penn Bank, or children of Mid Penn Bank employees are not eligible to win. Winner(s) will be notified by phone and email.
